Labor MP Wants Australian Immigration Intake to be Slashed
A Labor MP says that the best way to curb the Australian population growth is by cutting down on the Australian immigration intakes; this includes reducing the number of Australian skilled immigration workers as well. The MP further added that abolishing the middle-class welfare measures that encouraged people to have children could limit the population growth too.

The Victorian MP, Kelvin Thomson reportedly stated that Australia could support its ageing population by increasing the productivity of its present population rather than encouraging Australian immigration.
Thomson is critical of the government's decision to speed up the rules for Australian immigration for skilled workers that come in on 457 visas to help repair the flood damaged Queensland. The MP feels that this reliance on Australian skilled immigration workers has caused a lot of pressure amongst the population.
